All of New Mexico’s aspiring and established filmmakers are invited to submit a film for consideration in the Madrid Film Festival. We want to encourage professionals, amateurs and first-timers. Making a movie is hard work, but sharing it with a live audience is pure joy.
The festival is currently accepting short films (fifteen minutes or less) which were created over the past year in New Mexico.
Submit an entry by including a link to your film (Youtube, Dropbox, etc) in an email to adw@madridfilmfest.org.
No submission fee. Submit as many movies as you wish. Any use of generative-AI disqualifies the entry.
Must be a minimum size of 1920 x 1080.
Include a title card at the beginning of your movie.
In your email, indicate the film’s genre: comedy, drama, thriller, music video, documentary, animation, or experimental (non-genre).
Include an explanation of how the film is connected to New Mexico.
We accept films in all languages, but ask you to please subtitle all non-English dialogue.
Music rights must be secured by the filmmakers; copyrighted music cannot be used without permission.
Any use of generative-AI disqualifies the film. The executive class is pushing generative-AI so that they can regurgitate slop without having to share profits with human creators. Every shortcut feeds that dumb, greedy beast.
If your film is selected, you will need to provide an MP4 for the screening.

To be eligible for the “Oscar” Huber local Madrid film award, it must be made by people who reside within fifteen miles of Madrid, New Mexico.
Sound problems are the #1 cause of rejections. Invest time and resources into your audio.
Even more so than other modes of art, in short film: less is more.
Editing is everything.
